Back in 2015, the Kia Sorento SUV underwent one of its largest changes ever n Manassas, and the 2016 model-year was one of the most impressive and most well-equipped of any generation to hit the road in Chantilly, Woodbridge, Falls Church, or Washington DC. So, for 2017, Kia looked to continue that momentum.

What that means for the 2017 MY is a lot of change that happens under the skin. The exterior and interior design remains largely the same--which many see as a good thing. But it's not all same-old same-old for this gorgeous large crossover. The new Kia Sorento brings some very exciting new additions.

2017 Kia Sorento Trim Levels, Interior, and Capacity

Trim levels for the new 2017 Sorento are identical to the previous model-year, offering the Sorento L, LX, and EX, as well as the high-performance Sorento LX V6, EX V6, SX V6, and the top-of-the-line Sorento SX Limited V6. The base Sorento L model and the mid-range Sorento EX offer strict seating for five passengers; all other models offer seating for seven passengers as either standard or available equipment. Dynamax All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is available on most 2017 Sorento models.

This roomy SUV boasts a surprising 73.5 cubic feet of total interior cargo space behind the front seats, and 146.4 cubic feet of total passenger volume. So whether you're hauling six friends to a game or a show downtown, taking the kids (and their friends) out for ice cream, or doing a solo cross-country road trip, the spacious new 2017 Sorento has the goods that you need.

2017 Kia Sorento Performance and Tech

Engine options remain the same for the Sorento: choice of a fuel-efficient 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four cylinder, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder, or a robust 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6 engine. A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard across the lineup.

Where the 2017 model really shines (and makes the slight price increase worth it) is the massive integration of new technologies. The Kia SUV no offers both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity to help drivers more easily stream music, make calls, and send texts safely. If you don't have a compatible smartphone, Kia's UVO eServices help you connect to media and more.

As part of Advanced Technology Package or Advanced Touring Package, many new Sorento models now offer automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems. Thanks to this new safety technology, the 2017 Sorento earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
